Data Gumbo Named a Top Energy Innovator in 2022 Fire Awards

Houston Inno, the new digital media, events and data company focused on local innovation and the sister publication to the prestigious Houston Business Journal, announced last week in a virtual award ceremony its inaugural 2022 Fire Award winners. Featuring several leading-edge companies within Houston that serve a range of industries, this year’s focus targeted innovations bolstered by the ongoing pandemic, businesses helping to navigate supply chain complexities, as well as food and bio-health startups. The common denominator: “a drive to make everything better…

With 25 local companies selected as winners by Inno’s own editorial team, judging occurred based on major milestones, funding rounds, acquisitions, product launches and social impact. Data Gumbo is proud to be named as one of four top energy innovators in the awards, a list that includes renewable energy retailer, Octopus Energy; environmental asset management and compliance services firm, Elements Markets; and climate tech company, Solugen.

Of Data Gumbo’s win, Inno summarizes our company milestones:

From assets in the North Sea to the deserts of Arabia, Houston startup Data Gumbo is validating transactions
for energy and industrial clients using connected sensors and its own blockchain smart contract network. The  company closed a $7.7 million Series B round last summer, which included investments from Equinor Ventures, Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures and L37. Data Gumbo used the funding to open a new office in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to better serve prospective clients in the Middle East. The firm also launched a new offering focused on measuring and validating environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics. Despite challenges to the oil and gas industry during the pandemic, Data Gumbo grew from 30 to over 70 employees during 2021.

“It’s excellent to be included as one of the area’s top four energy companies pushing the innovation envelope in Houston Inno’s opening awards program,” said Andrew Bruce, CEO and Founder, Data Gumbo. “As the energy industry transitions, Data Gumbo is thrilled for the recognition in its ability to procure critical savings and provide trust and transparency in contract executions for energy and other industrial use cases through a blockchain-powered smart contract network.”
